The term Reiki is a combination of the words Rei, which means cosmic intelligence, and Ki, which refers to the vital energy.
It is a healing system whose aim is to balance the person through the transmission of loving universal energy by imposition of hands.
Disturbed areas can be blocked and create an obstacle for the free circulation of energy, and these can be unblocked through using loving universal energy that is key to reiki.
Usui set the bases for Reiki in Japan in 1870. He was a priest and a doctor who in his spiritual search traveled to places where ancient wisdom was jealously guarded. He was looking for an answer to how Jesus performed his miracle healing.
Usui found texts about Jesus and Buddha which relayed the healings in detail. In one of those texts, a disciple of Buddha talked about symbols that were used in the healings, which could be taught, transmitting the capacity to heal to other people. However, Usui was not able to find these symbols anywhere.
His master, a Zen monk, suggested that he perform a fast in the sacred mountain Kuriyama. It was on this mountain and after 21 days of fasting that Usui received the symbols in the form of a vision.
It is important to point out that Reiki is a way of personal and spiritual development. When the chakras are harmonized, the aura can be cleaned and pains and complaints can be eased. It is possible to clean the work place and the homes energies, and experience Reiki meditation techniques, using crystals and stones to maximise its effects.
It is possible to give Reiki to any object in order to harmonize its energy; for example, it can be used to improve the quality of the food we eat and the water we drink.
It is also possible to send Reiki at a distance, to people who are far away, to past relationships or to present or future meetings, such as a job interview or a loved one.
Reiki represents a wonderful power aimed at the development of personal awareness, happiness and wellbeing.
